Co-Machines

The only good system is a soundsystem.

Kaegh was featured in the Co-Machines book published by Berlin based collective On/Off.

The sound system was born as a quick solution to a need for some music to lead a parade, but soon it became useful for many other uses, from impromptu forest parties to a gathering point for protests.

Nicknamed “Cheniqua the Sound Empress” it was composed very simply of a leisure battery, a simple and inexpensive car amp and two speakers – ratchet strapped to a shopping trolley and elegantly dressed.

The system was implemented in Oxford, England. It was used for a centerpiece for a graduation parade, for forest fire backing music and for gathering momentum during the 2010 student protests over raised university tuition fees.

The battery had to be charged daily and was often impounded by police also the cheap amp blew once and had to be replaced for an upgraded version,  but apart from this it served as a very reliable and robust portable sound source.

Easy to make and difficult not to enjoy.
